Private Lesson Pricing

Pricing is for up to two people; to be paid prior to final confirmation and booking your instructor.

Private Lessons EXPIRE ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE DATE. Any lessons not used within 1 year of purchase date will be forfeited. It is recommended private lessons be taken at least once per week in order to complete packages in a timely fashion. An upgrade in pricing will be applied, however, to lessons not taken which have since changed in price.

*NOTE* Artistic Director and most Affiliated Guest Artist fees do not adhere to this usual pricing schedule and do not offer discount pricing packages...please verify all special or visiting instructor hourly pricing with our private lesson administrators.

Pricing for Group & Private Combo Packages

A combination of group and private lessons is what we recommend as the optimal way to learn to dance. Patterns and social dance etiquette in the groups and personalized coaching in the privates will allow you to progress quickly and gain confidence as your skills grow.

We try to make it easy and economical for you to do this by providing packages which combine private and group lessons at a discounted rate. These are ideal for singles and couples who want the biggest bang for their buck or for wedding couples getting ready for the big day!

Group Class Registration Discounts

New student Guest Night/Open House Discount - save $15

Open House Parties are held once a month, on the 4th calendar Friday. Anyone may join us, as our guest, on these evenings. New students (i.e.: someone who has NEVER previously purchased any classes, workshops, crash courses, or private lessons at Dance Manhattan) who register at Open House are eligible for an immediate $15 discount on a one course registration for the next cycle of classes (the price will be discounted to $75).

New Student Referral Discount - save $10

We encourage our current students to share the fun and refer new students to Dance Manhattan. Register for the next cycle of classes TOGETHER with your friend/colleague and both of you will enjoy a $10 discount off your next month's registration.

Full-time High School or College Student Discount - save $25

If you are a full-time student, just show us your current, valid student ID and we will make you a great deal:

  • 1 course for $65 -- 4 hours/month of instruction (One course usually costs $90; save $25)
  • 2 courses for $105 -- 8 hours/month of instruction (Two courses usually cost $130; save $25)

"Couples Only" Group Course Discount - save additional $10

  • Two Courses for "Couples Only": Friday 6, 7 or 8pm in the same 4 week session = $120 per person. (Save an additional $10 off our already low discount price!)
  • Three Courses for "Couples Only" - DATE NIGHT: Friday 6, 7 and 8pm in the same 4 week session = $150 per person. (Save an additional $10 off our already low discount price!)

Single Course Early Bird Discount - save $5

If you register for a single course prior to the Monday of the start of new group classes, you will enjoy a $5 savings (the price will be discounted to $85).

Discounts cannot be combined or taken concurrently nor can they be taken with an already discounted package.

Group Class Info & Policies

Group lessons are an excellent introduction to dances of all types and the social experience of partner dancing. They allow you to concentrate on a single dance or try out a number of different styles under the direction of our superb professional staff and in a congenial mix of students of all ages.

Over 80 group classes are offered each week in all dance styles and levels.
ROTATING CLASSES - A great deal of our group classes rotate partners consistently and students are given the opportunity to practice their steps with others throughout the class. This accomplishes two things- you get used to dancing with different partners, honing your skills for the social dance scene, and you get the opportunity to meet new people and make new friends here at Dance Manhattan.

We do, however, offer several other alternatives in group classes:
COUPLES ONLY dance classes which allow students to dance exclusively with their partner. These are wonderful for couples getting ready for their wedding or a special event. They also make for a great "Friday date night" experience! The program includes:
  • Friday, 6pm -- Swing and Salsa
  • Friday, 7pm -- Foxtrot, Waltz and Slow Dancing
  • Friday, 8pm -- Argentine Tango

Make-up classes: To get the most out of your learning experience, it is recommended that you take all 4 weeks of your registered course in sequence. From time to time you may not be able to keep to this schedule and a make-up class can be taken in place of the regularly scheduled class you missed. Make-up classes MUST be taken within your 4 week semester. Make-up classes not taken within the same semester will be forfeited.

You may take a make-up class in:

  • your dance, up to and including your present level in that dance,
  • any generic technique class, or
  • a basic class in a new dance other than the one you are studying. [This is permitted in the first two weeks of the term only.]

Drop In Classes : Although not recommended (since 4 week courses are progressive), a student may take a single, one-hour, drop-in class within the first two weeks of a course for $25. Drop-ins are NOT permitted in weeks 3 or 4 without instructor permission.

Auditing Classes : Any student wishing to watch a class, in order to determine if it is a class of interest to you, may do so for the last 15 minutes. Please ask permission at reception and they will direct you to the appropriate classroom to observe.

Private Lesson Info & Policies

Private lessons are available in all styles and levels of dance with any of our professional staff. This intense, personalized attention gives you the opportunity to focus on mastering footwork, styling and technique. You may share your lessons with a partner (one leader, one follower) at no additional fee!

Private Lessons EXPIRE ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE DATE. Any lessons not used within 1 year of purchase date will be forfeited.

Private Lessons are 55 minutes long and do not guarantee a private room. There are no REFUNDS or EXCHANGES on private lessons. Once booked, a minimum of 24 hours notice is required in order to reschedule a lesson and avoid a full charge for that lesson. Discounted private packages are available in groups of 5, 10 and 20.

Hours for Private Lessons

Private lessons are by appointment and are scheduled based on the instructor's availability and your convenience. Appointments may be scheduled:

  • Weekdays: 10am to 9pm (sometimes 10pm)
  • Saturdays: 10am to 4pm
  • Sundays: when open, 10am to 4pm - but times vary based on studio opening

General Policies and Procedures for Private Lessons

  • Sometimes due to unforeseen circumstances, the same instructor cannot always be guaranteed throughout the duration of a package
  • A private lesson guarantees a private instructor, but not a private room
  • Private lessons are 55 minutes long

    One-Day Crash Courses and Workshops

    Swing, Salsa, Argentine Tango, West Coast Swing, Foxtrot/Waltz & Ballroom Couples Only

    One-Day Crash Courses and Workshops are an excellent way for dancers to learn the basics or specific topics of dance. They take place in a single day, over an extended period of time. Although sometimes held on weeknights they more often occur on weekends. This can be an excellent opportunity to study for people with schedules that do not permit attendance at consecutive, weekly evening classes or for those who want to review their basics!

    Dance Manhattan pioneered the One-Day Crash Course, a marathon for basic students. We currently offer monthly crash courses in Swing, Salsa, Argentine Tango, and West Coast Swing . These are taught by a line-up of great instructors and require partners to rotate throughout the day.

    Also on our monthly Crash Course schedule are the:
    . "Couples Only" Crash Course - taught by a dance team, allows partners to dance exclusively together and highlights these dance favorites: Foxtrot, Waltz, Swing and Salsa.

    Each of our one-day Crash courses meets from 3 to 4 1/2 hours. They offer an exciting and progressive introduction to the basics of the dance while providing new material for those with moderate experience who may come back and join us month-after-month. These all day courses offer a great "taste" of dance at a very modest price.

    One-day Intensives with our talented instructors, are for the more accomplished dancer and are offered from time to time in Swing, Tango, Salsa, West Coast and Feldenkrais technique. One-time workshops in a specific dance are offered sporadically and the material and level vary. While sometimes taught by in-house staff, these workshops are often given by nationally and internationally acclaimed guest artists who may be visiting for anywhere from a weekend to a month, or more. Pricing varies.

    Dance Analysis Program

    If you are transferring from another school or have some dance experience learned elsewhere our Dance Analysis Program is a great way to get to know our Studio and help determine what level class would be best for you at Dance Manhattan.

    The package provides a number of different ways for you to learn about our class structure, our friendly environment, as well as how to best take advantage of our program.

    A $20 fee includes the following features:

    • 1/2 Hour Dance Analysis: you will work with one of our talented staff who will evaluate your dance background and skills and assist you in selecting classes. THIS IS NOT A PRIVATE LESSON, rather an analysis of your existing level of dance.
    • A Dance Party: Be a guest at one of our many Monday, Friday or Sunday dance socials for ballroom, latin, tango or swing dancing.
    • $5 Introductory Package Discount: Enjoy $5 off either your first private lesson with an in-house instructor or your first group course registration.

    Make Up Classes

    If you are unable to attend a regularly scheduled class because of an emergency, you can make up that class at any time during your course. You may take a make-up class in:

    • your dance, up to and including your present level in that dance,
    • any generic technique class, or
    • a basic class in a new dance other than the one you are studying. [This is permitted in the fist two weeks only.]

    Make ups must be taken before the end of the current four week period, or they will be lost.

    Make-ups are not permitted on the 4th week of a class if you have never studied that particular dance before. This policy will be waived with permission of the instructor.

    Carryover of registration fees to another semester may be permitted under extraordinary circumstances and with the approval of studio management. A $10.00 administrative fee and partial class charges, at $25/hour, will be applied.

    General Notes

    All classes are 55 minutes long and start at 6, 7 , 8 or 9pm weeknights or 11am, noon or 1pm on Saturdays. To provide the best possible learning environment, as a rule, students are not permitted to begin a class later than the second week of a cycle. All group classes must be completed during the 4-week cycle and classes cannot be carried over to the next cycle. A student who misses one of their regularly scheduled group classes must complete a make-up class (preferably in similar dance style and level to their registered class) before the end of the 4-week cycle.

    Leader Follower Ratio- Registration does not guarantee an equal balance of leaders and followers in any given class. ALL classes rotate partners, except those noted as COUPLES ONLY classes, and there are some classes that require that you learn to both follow and lead.

    No Smoking- There is no smoking anywhere within the studio space or in our building, including stairwells and entrance lobby.

    Suggestions- We welcome your suggestions on how to keep the studio a pleasant and enjoyable place. Please tell us those things you believe can be improved (and how), as well as those you like. We welcome your comments- please put them in our suggestion box at any time!

    Tardiness- Students may be refused entrance into a class, private, or other event if they are more than 20 minutes late.

    Payments

    Payments for services may be made in cash, by check, or with MasterCard, VISA or Discover.

    Gift Certificates are available at reception or via email in all denominations and for all instructional services that we provide. [A great gift idea!]

    ALL SALES FOR SERVICES AND GIFT CERTIFICATES ARE FINAL. There are no Cash, Check, or Credit Card Refunds permitted.

    In extreme cases, credits may be approved by management. These will be made in the form of studio credit ONLY, to be used at Dance Manhattan within one year.
